Professional Bio

Emma Rossby is a dual-title PhD candidate in French and Francophone Studies and Visual Studies. Her research and teaching interests include the digital and public humanities, comics studies, and museum studies. With a focus on contemporary Belgium, her dissertation examines how forms of visual storytelling such as bandes dessinées are used as tools for public pedagogy to mediate discussions of race, gender, and colonial histories outside of academic spaces.
At Penn State, Emma has designed and taught courses on topics including 20th and 21st century Francophone visual cultures, literary and artistic representations of the self, and French cultural history.
